During the expedition we will be comfortably roughing it,
camping under the stars in sleeping bags on pads. Tents
will be available, in the unlikely event that weather proves
inclement. The nights before and after the expedition we
will be staying in a rather rustic but very nice, clean
hotel in the tiny town of Escalante, Utah.
Teachers and Modalities Offered:
This trip brings together a UNIQUE and eclectic mix of teachers
and
training. A wide range of complementary subjects will be
available for
practice and exploration led by three experts in their respective
fields.
Sat Kirin Kaur is the director of the Yoga West studio in
Los Angeles
and has studied with Yogi Bhajan, master of Kundalini and
Hatha Yogas, for some thirty years. She has been teaching
as a certified instructor for twenty-five years and has
developed special interests and classes in healing thru
yoga and women¹s studies, along with meditation. Sat
Kirin will be offering sunrise yoga and sunset meditation,
as well as healing sessions.
Christine Hammond is also a certified Kundalini Yoga instructor
who
has studied with Yogi Bhajan and several other masters.
She has been
teaching her dynamic style of Kundalini Flow for three years.
In
addition to the yoga, Chris will be leading a workshop in
Breath
Healing Transformation, another area of interest and expertise.
She
has been leading monthly groups in this practice for the
last ten
years.
Philip Stearns is our wilderness guide and veteran outdoorsman.
Although he has led groups on expeditions from Mexico to
Thailand,
Philip’s true passion is the great, canyon wilderness
of southern Utah.
For the last eighteen years, he has been exploring the area
and he has
been leading groups into it for the last fifteen. Philip
is also an
aikido instructor who has been practicing aikido for eighteen
years and
teaching for some ten in Santa Monica, California. Philip’s
expertise
includes an ability to help people to connect and blend
with the Wilderness in ways unfamiliar to most people. He will be
offering
opportunities to learn movement meditations, different ways
of walking
and moving that break down the illusion of separation between
you and
the natural world around you. Instruction will be available
for
participants in the use of sound in dynamic meditation,
river walking
to shed fear and several other techniques to activate your
native
intelligence and to enhance your personal connection with
your world.
For people with pressing questions about heir lives, you
will have the
opportunity to participate in an exercise that Philip calls,
“Cracking
the Code of Manifestation.”
The Food:
Because we will be carrying our food in our backpacks, most
heavy, fresh fruits and vegetables will be ‘off the
menu’ during the
expedition. But that does not mean we won¹t be eating
well! We will be
starting our days with everything from buckwheat pancakes
topped with
fruit to organic granolas, oatmeal and muesli. Lunches and
dinners
will include a wide assortment of vegetarian meals, many
with organic
ingredients grown and packaged especially for backpackers
in Idaho.
Entrees may include pasta dishes like lasagna or ravioli,
rice dishes
with beans and lentils, and so on. Miso and other nutritious
soups
complement the meals and desserts are to die for. Imagine
sitting on a
rocky bluff overlooking a meandering stream at sunset as
it winds its
way past a vast stone arch hundreds of feet tall while you
breath-in
the fresh smell of sage with a bowl of peach cobbler or
chocolate mouse in your lap! It spells “H-E-A-V-E-N”!
Transportation
The trip officially begins on Sunday afternoon, October
3rd in the town of Escalante, Utah. Although transportation
to-and-from the area is not provided as a part of the expedition,
shared-ride car pools will be driving from Los Angeles via
Las Vegas and St. George, Utah. Canadian participants not
driving down can fly into one of those cities and rendezvous
with a vehicle enroute. Rental cars are also available in
all three cities.
