Milagro Retreats and Surf Sister’s Solstice Weekend in the Sun

What a Scorcher!!
We were blessed with record temperatures in the 80’s…the warmest June Tofino has seen in years. What a perfect introduction to a blend of Surf lessons with Surf Sister, Organic delights by Milagro Retreats and daily yoga with Kelly of Sacred Stone.
Being the first Retreat of our 3rd season in Tofino, it could not have been better. From the luxury accommodations, to the amazing group of people….it was a fantastic time!!

The First Night
We started with an opening circle, setting intentions for the weekend. The common theme was rejuvenation, nourishment and learning to surf. Next we played a ‘get to know each other’ game inspired by Kathe. Silly questions were written on paper, and we choose from a pile. In turn we had to do everything from showing our favorite dance move, to sharing our best childhood costume and our worst hair cut. This lead to much laughter, and a sense of coming together after a day of travel.
Dinner the first night was full of flavor sensations. Carrot Lemongrass Soup from the Rebar Cookbook got our taste buds going. This was followed by Organic Greens from the Milagro Garden with Sweet Tahini Dressing, and samples of some easy raw dishes including Mini Pizzas and Festive Seed Cheese. Dessert was an amazing Raw Pie filled with bananas and garnished with fresh fruit.
Everyone slept well with cozy down filled duvets and visions of Surf lessons dancing through our heads.

Surf Lessons
Breakfast was refreshing fruit salad with Homemade Museli and Yogurt. Silk Road Tea was flowing throughout the weekend. Our first Yoga class was filled with humor and a wake up call to our hamstrings. The weather permitted an outdoor class with the smells of the forest to invigorate us, and Kelly prepared us for our surf adventures with many Vinyasas.
Between activities and meals, we were blessed with amazing bodyworkers on hand to enhance the experience. Both Kathe and Joanne offered loving, nurturing treatments.
Lunch was an interactive experience with a demo from Shani on how to roll your own Soba Noodle Salad Wrap, using rice paper and nori. Inari Pockets were also served filled with fresh vegies and the tea of choice was Japanese Sour Cherry.
Now the moment we had been waiting for….The first lesson with Surf Sister. This first 3 hour introduction to Mother Ocean was filled with laughter, and excitement as each of us jumped to our feet for the first feel of riding a wave…..So much fun!!! Both Louise and Marie were filled with insight and advice…saved years of time with great instruction.

Dinner
We were so hungry that we were delighted to come home to Bliss Balls and more Tea. Dinner was prepared with love. A hearty feast of Millet Yam Patties with Almond Pesto (a recipe inspired by Laura Moore of Victoria) and Organic Greens from the Milagro Garden with a Balsamic Vinegarette. This was all accompanied by fine wine and great conversations…Friendships were being formed and knowledge was shared. Another restful night......

Our Last Day Together
Was it really our last morning together? Smoothies were ready upon rising, infused with ginger, sweetened with dates and a fresh homemade almond milk base. Gluten Free Granola and more Fresh Fruit…we were vibrating with all this living food!!!
Another yoga class to prepare us for our date with Mother Ocean. We were all feeling our new surfing muscles!!!!
Our last meal was another delight….Avocado Gazpacho, Flax Crackers, Roasted Veggie Quesadillas and Tropical Guacamole….yahooo!! Our taste buds were singing. Fully fueled for our afternoon of frolicking in the sun!!
Our only wish was that this weekend of Yoga, Surf and Organic Feasts would last longer…
